Michelle is a sponsor or supporter of well over 50 bills this session including:
H5148 which would create a broadband coordinator and council. RI is one of just 2 states that does not have a council to oversee our broadband availability.
This council would be responsible for improving access to the broadband capabilities across RI, including the pursuit of federal grants.
We have great fiber optic capability across the state, but while the infrastructure is there, the access to the infrastructure is poor. (Think of it as a highway with no on-ramp.)
H5279 Energy siting bill. Would require that all new energy facility siting proposals include information about how the proposed facility would impact the state's carbon emissions reduction goals.
H5353 Requires training of teachers/students/school personnel regarding suicide awareness and prevention, and the establishment of a conflict resolution process between teachers or school personnel/students. This legislation came about following a tragic incident at Portsmouth High School.
H5463 would make epi-pens available without a copay and not susceptible to a deductible requirement.
H5624 would require that names on the ballot are listed per a lottery system rather than the current system of "endorsed candidate" first and remove the asterisk from the ballot.
H6078 is a resolution asking Congress to pass a single payer health care program.
H5445 Act on Climate- Establishes a statewide greenhouse gas emission reduction mandate.
H5031 To create a statewide Electric Vehicle infrastructure plan to make EV charging stations more accessible.
H5678 Act would exempt from state taxation certain pension benefits that originate from, and were already taxed in another state.
H5929 The Doula Reimbursement Act- Would insure that doula (professional perinatal support) services are covered by insurance. This bill would increase access to doula services for birthing families, and help reduce the racial disparities associated with birth outcomes in RI.
- the House COVID-19 Task Force
- the House Veterans Affair Committee
- the House Committee on State Government and Elections.
